President's Welcome

Region Five President Jeff Davis takes a moment to pose in a photo with United States Section National President Viola Powrie in Colorado during the last National Delegate's Conference.

**************************

We are well into 2009 by the time you read this. It is hard to believe, but true nonetheless. 2008 proved to be another successful and event filled year for Region Five. You should have received your region newsletter "Take Five" by now. The winter issue outlined many of the various events we held last year. We once again hosted several visitors, had our own members travel the globe, and held several successful meetings and events.

There are a lot of exciting events on the horizon as well. We will be holding our annual Irish Heritage meeting in March. As soon as we have a firm date, I will send an email out, as well as a mailing. This event has become a favorite among our membership, as well as for your president. I look forward to seeing many of you there this year.

We will also be sponsoring another trip to Las Vegas in April. For more information, click here, or visit the "Region Five News" link. The last time we ran this event, it sold out completely twice over. The price is right, and Las Vegas is a wonderful vacation destination. You cannot run out of exciting and fun things to do there.

We are also planning a very special May meeting just prior to our annual excursion to Washington, DC for Police Week. If you have never been to the Police Memorial during Police Week, I strongly recommend you take this opportunity to partake in this moving experience. Family and friends are always welcome, and you will experience camaraderie like never before amongst your fellow police officers from across the globe. The meeting prior to the trip will feature a very special guest speaker. As arrangements become final, details will be provided to our members.

We have plenty going on for everyone, and that is only the first half of the year. I am looking forward to a very successful and busy 2009. Recruitment remains one of my top priorities, and I continue to encourage each of you to recruit one person this year. Please come out to any event of your choosing and show your support.

Finally, I would like to congratulate Steve Kear on his recent appointment to the national board as Third Vice-President. Steve works hard for the organization and does a great job. As a result of Steve's appointment, he has had to resign his post as National Delegate for our region. I have appointed Arnold Rothenberg to the position of Region Five National Delegate, a position for which I believe Arnie is ideally suited.  I have also asked Steve Ryan to take the position of Sergeant At Arms. I would also like to welcome Daniela Farrell to her new position of Region Five Benefits Coordinator. Your region board continues to work hard for you, the membership. As I enter my sixth year as Region Five President, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous year ahead. Remember to get involved. Its your organization, so get the most out of it you can.
